The French Driving License is valid for 5 to 15 years which is allotted depending upon your age, the vehicle category, and your medical record.

The French Driving License consists of the information including, your name, date and place of birth, start and expiry of date, signature, permit category, and license number allotted to you.

The 4-permit category in France are:

• 1. Category 1: A1, A2, A – for Motorcycles
• 2. Category 2: B – for Personal Cars
• 3. Category 3: C – for small trucks
• 4. Category 4: D – for big vehicles (transport that carry 8 or more passengers).

The driving theory test is valid for 5 years from the date of successfully passing the written exam.

The minimum age to drive a motor vehicle is 15 years old and the age to drive a car is 17 years old.

If you fail your driving test on the first attempt, you can reattempt it within 45 days. But remember you cannot take the retest after 2 days of getting the result.

The NEPH number is important for scheduling and attending exams whether it is theoretical or practical. It is highly confidential number as it is your application number to sign up for scheduling and attempting exams and it is also your future French driver’s license’s number.
